YOU OF A!!! Congratulations to the Arizona Wildcats for winning the 2012 College World Series. It is UA’s 1st CWS title since 1986 and the school’s 4th title in school history. With the 4-1 victory over South Carolina to win it all, UA were just the 2nd team to finish 10-0 in postseason play of the NCAA Tournament.
Arizona freshman Mathew Troupe had the responsibility of closing the game. He found himself on the mound with bases loaded in the final inning, giving up a double and walking two. After a strikeout gave UA the first out of the final frame, a line-out caught in the air by the second baseman gave Arizona the second out, and a pop-out to right field ended it, giving the Wildcats the first CWS victory under coach Andy Lopez.
The win could also be attributed to the Wildcats three-run ninth inning. These boys were bringing their A game offensively and defensively. They were determined to end South Carolina’s win streak and make sure they didn’t 3-peat. And that they did!
So again, we congratulate our Arizona team ….even if it isn’t the Sundevils!
