Due to the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy, pop sensation Ke$ha’s hit single “Die Young” has found itself embroiled in controversy. U.S. radio stations sensitive to the situation have either relaxed rotations or removed the song completely from their playlists. Radio tracker Mediabase has reported an 11% drop in airplay since the Friday’s shooting.
The potentially inflammatory lyrics of the song’s chorus, “Let’s make the most of the night like we’re gonna die young,” have sparked heated debate on its appropriateness in light of the tragedy.
On Tuesday, December 18, Ke$ha took to Twitter with the shocking claim that she was “forced” to sing the now controversial lyrics.
i understand. I had my very own issue with "die young" for this reason. I did NOT want to sing those lyrics and I was FORCED TO.

She went on to apologize for the now inappropriate lyrics to her song.
I'm so so so sorry for anyone who has been effected by this tragedy.and I understand why my song is now inappropriate. words cannot express.

The singer has since deleted her Tweets. She has offered no explanation as to what being forced to sing “Die Young” means. She, along with her longtime producer Dr. Luke and fun. frontman Nate Ruess are credited with writing the song’s lyrics.
